So I made this piece because I wanted to create a piece where one block colour was the main background, with little interuption. A lot of the work you see under my inspiration tab is of course focused on grass as well, so I decided to try to create this bird perspective piece showing Philbert running off on adventure with his friends. I am not completely satisfied with this, and I tried to change it multiple times (which doesnt accurately show in my progress gif and pictures sadly), but in the end this was the endresult where I felt finished with the piece. I am still experimenting with this blocky light, and tried to recreate the shadows from the clouds being cast down on the field. I am not completely sure why the piece doesn't work, and havent had enough time to truly reflect on it yet. It did however seem popular enough online, as I gained more followers than usual, but it seems to be a self fulfilling prophecy that the pieces you like the least, the crowd enjoys the most.
Well, lets look at the progress.

What really doesnt come across in this piece, is the progress. I might have not recorded as often as I thought I did? But I think it might be more that the piece changed so much back and forth. What I really struggled with was the grass. I made so many different varients of grass forthis piece. I tried a lot of things, like more detail and showing each strand of grass. I tried multiple colours. In the end, I figured simple is probably best, and tried out this way. I decided to go with that in the end, but I have to admit I'm still a bit unsure. I didnt know grass was that difficult from a bird perspective.
I also changed my mind on Peppers dress a few times. Even though this gif and pictures say otherwisse, I actually tried the yellow on her dress first. I did yellow, but then was unsure about it matching the flowers, and changed it to blue. And then, I changed it back to yellow. I had a small storyline in my head that she was forced to wear this polkadot dress even though she hated it, and wanted it to be more "in your face", which is why I chose yellow. I also struggled with the clouds. I tried many varients, big shadows and smaller ones. I tried the blurrier version, but ended up on the flat version. I feel it fits the image better.
For some inspiration, I looked up on pinterest, as usual.
The first piece is by Perry Maple, a digital artist I have followed for a while. His linework has inspired me to mold and create landscape through simple lines. It is great to study those who create work different than your own, as that might push you to create something outside your own boundaries, and to implement their features in your art can create powerful new methods.
The second piece is made by Ma-ko, a digital artist I have seen quite a lot. I looked up his work mainly because I love the style, and how he uses simple colours and simple lines to guide his work. I loved how he made the grass, and I did try to use this technique in one of my attempts, but it would obviously look too short. I had issues making tall grass, while shorter grass can have a lot more detail. However his work is inspiring to see. I have considered giving Philbert a beast to ride, but I havent decided in one yet. I want to be careful not to introduce too many characters if they are not a valuable member of the group. And if there is another animal, I don't want them to take over the spotlight from Fox.
