I've been doing some poses and clothing sketches recently. I think these are a lot of fun, great for practice, and easy to look at for the viewer. These always do it better on instagram because they are simpler and easier to see when you scroll through a million pictures. I am getting close to 400 followers, so of course to build an audience, I want to post images that are easier for a new viewer to like and understand.
I am experimenting with colours, composition and shapes. I am trying to use simple lines that tell a lot. I love designing new characters, and try to draw people with some personality behind the lines.
This is a bit different, as it isnt about the character, but about the appearal. I was inspired by Mt. Fuji, and wanted to make a dress resembling it. To further push that this was inspired by the area around Mt Fuji as well, I gave the character a cherry blossom crown.
And last but not least, two judgy girls! I started this as a pose practice, and completely finished the pose before I added characters or faces to them. This is a little unusal for me, but I do like the end result. I really like this very simple way of drawing faces, where you only need 4 lines. I do really like this small piece, and I can kind of imagine the two of them being friends who support eachothers, but might be a little too cold towards strangers (i'm looking at you, ginger).
wellp, inspirations for sketches, thats even tougher than usual !!
Lee Kyu Young, known as @gyong_studio on instagram.
I have followed him for a while, and what drew (ha-ha) me in, was the simplistic faces, surrounded by astonishing illustration. He does a lot of ads and promotion in his illustrations, for example the middle one with the beer, but the style and art is always consistant, even if its promotion or self inspired. The way he makes his characters is quite unique, and it is a very playful style. I see him as a great inspiration to stick to a style and run with it.
Sidenote, I have been commissioned to make a few banners and profile pictures for some streamers on Twitch. I am pretty interested in streaming myself, and I think anyone with any interest can stream. I would love to use it to stream art and get closer in the community! Livestreaming is such a great way to build connections.
I will definitely let you know if it happens.
Hasta la vista, newborn
